Your doctor will usually prescribe a strict schedule for taking steroids. Take the medicine before 9 am if you only take 1 dose per day. If you miss a dose, take the medicine as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, take only 1 dose. DO NOT double up the doses. DO NOT stop taking this medicine abruptly without talking with your doctor first. May worsen your symptoms. Your doctor will need to reduce your dosage gradually to prevent adverse effects. Take this medicine with food or immediately following a meal to limit upset stomach. You may crush tablets and mix with food if you have difficulty swallowing. Shake liquids well and use a calibrated cup to give correct dose. Notify your health care providers that you are taking a steroid medication prior to receiving any immunization (vaccine) or skin test. They may withhold this treatment while you are on steroid therapy. Diabetics need to monitor glucose (sugar) levels carefully. Steroids may alter your levels. Follow-up with your doctor regularly to monitor the effectiveness of this medication. Side effectsDizziness, nausea, vomiting, indigestion, changes in appetite, weight gain, fatigue, difficulty sleeping, mood changes, or restlessness. PrecautionOverdose - Usually results from accumulation of steroids in blood stream due to kidney or liver disorders. This may produce Cushingoid symptoms. Avoid alcoholic beverages while taking this medication, especially if you also take aspirin or other arthritis medications. Increases risk of developing ulcers. Notify your doctor if you develop signs and symptoms of an infection such as a fever, sore throat, pain during urination, and body aches. Keep this medication and all others out of reach of children and pets. Drug interactionsDrug - There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription, which will alter the action of this medication. Some include aspirin, anticoagulants, anti-tuberculosis medications, asthma medicines, anti-fungal agents, antibiotics, heart medications, diabetic drugs, seizure medications, birth control pills, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications (ibuprofen, naproxen), and live virus vaccines. It is extremely important that you consult with your doctor about dosing schedules if you take a variety of medications along with this medication.
